About the Agency

The Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD) manages groundwater for nearly four million residents in 43 cities of Southern Los Angeles County and is the official Groundwater Level Monitoring Entity for the Central Basin and West Coast Basin. The 420 square mile service area uses about 250,000 acre-feet of groundwater per year taken from the aquifers of the Central Coast and West Coast Basins. This equates to nearly 40% of the total demand for water. WRD is involved in groundwater monitoring, safe drinking water programs, combating seawater intrusion and groundwater replenishment operations throughout Southern Los Angeles County.
