Magic Beans is a family-run business with four stores in the Boston area. They are well known locally as being one of the foremost experts in all things baby gear. Their stores are lovely, their staff super knowledgeable and their former website was a sub-par effort and all that could be supported by their point of-sale system. With greatly-increased competition from national chains including Babies-R-Us and Bed, Bath & Beyond, they decided to invest in their online business and focus on better functionality, design and overall “friendliness” to compete with the huge national chains. Since their customers range from young parents to older grandparents, ease of use for shopping and the gift registry was paramount. The results since the website’s re-launch? Simply terrific! Online sales are up over 300% in year two and forty percent of their online orders come from outside the Boston area (versus three percent just two years ago). With the addition of international shipping, overseas orders are now a daily occurrence. In-store pickup of web orders as well as the ability to return online orders at any location have become great differentiators for Magic Beans. At Magic Beans, gift-wrap is always free and online buyers enjoy the same perk as well as the ability to pick their favorite wrapping paper during checkout. These are just a few of the latest checkout features that have helped increase conversions over six-fold. Additionally we have combined five years of brick and two years of online orders to create richly detailed customer product recommendations. With the site now just turning two, things are looking very bright indeed… thank goodness.
